Are you prepared to design the future?
Although many of us feel we can prepare for our future by thinking, acting, and learning using present methods and values, nothing is farther from the truth – especially in today’s rapidly changing world. A newborn child enters a world not of his or her own making. Each succeeding generation inherits the values, accomplishments, hopes, successes, and failings of previous generations. And they inherit the results of the decisions made by those generations.
For the hundreds of thousands of years of human existence when technologies were simple or non-existent, this may have had little impact on human life and the earth that sustains it. Each generation of hunters and gatherers, then plowmen and pioneers, passed on tools to the next generation to help them survive. Change from one generation to the next was slow and hardly noticeable. In those days there was little understanding of science and how things worked, and explanations were not scientific.
This is no longer the case in today’s high-tech world where a change that affects millions may happen in a matter of seconds. A child born today inherits a world vastly different from that of its parent’s generation, let alone that from centuries ago. Previous generations left a legacy of, exploitation, occupation, and irrelevant values that present great challenges, but also opportunities to the people of today.
The Venus Project presents a bold, new direction for humanity that entails nothing less than the total redesign of our culture. There are many people today who are concerned with the serious problems that face our modern society: unemployment, violent crime, replacement of humans by technology, over-population and a decline in the Earth’s ecosystems. As you will see, The Venus Project is dedicated to confronting all of these problems by actively engaging in the research, development, and application of workable solutions. Through the use of innovative approaches to social awareness, educational incentives, and the consistent application of the best that science and technology can offer directly to the social system, The Venus Project offers a comprehensive plan for social reclamation in which human beings, technology, and nature will be able to coexist in a long-term, sustainable state of dynamic equilibrium.

I believe one day we will rise to the occasion and become the society we were intended to become. keepin the faith alive is hard tho when there’s so many ignorant people around you…
the whole point is that technology simplifies our lives so that we dont have to do the physical labor, so that we can commit ourselves to the designs and art and enrich ourselves with whats truly important–family, love and memories…
returning to the 50′s and 60′s as far as manual labor goes is not the answer.. people will HAVE to educate themselves (kind of evolve or die–it is natural selection).. there will be no room left for ignorance. It is better to teach people new skills than to revert back to the old ways.
we will always need creativity and the human touch—robots will never do things like cut/style our hair or make amazing food or make our homes beautiful with planting the garden or choosing fabric or care the way we do… technology will not replace everything–only make the way we work easier and more efficient..
I dont agree
what the venus project promotes is a society run by a technocratic elite dictating the lives and fate of the citizens in cities that look more like prisons than anything else.
Its just a replacement for the elite dominant society we have today
who would be the elete in a society without money?
surely people with extensive knowledge in certian areas would in some ways have an advantage over others, therefore it would not be technicly 100% equal but it would be a lot better than what we have today.
If everyone could persue the things they wanted, i believe we would be more productive as designers would be people with a love for designing, doctors would be people who just love to do that kind of work, not just for the fat pay cheque, If a loved one became sick and you wanted to dedicate your life to finding a cure, you could do that ! Bankers, Finance, Lawyers, cops, adveritsing, marketing, Sales etc would all become a thing of the past, its not far fetched to say that one could design their own house (or any product they want for that matter) exactly as they want on thair laptop and position themselves anywhere thay want.
In a world with that much freedom what would make someone elete ?
Having everything is only special when there are people who have nothing !
Don’t they already have one of these in Dubai?
This takes my breath away. It takes only our consent to make it happen. Or we can continue to live in this hell we’we created. I believe, the greatest illusion of any human being is that one can thrive alone. How one can be happy if his fellow man is starving? How can one consider himself successful in world which is dying? Where is justice in fact that some of us have unlimited resources available while others are condemned to fail before even born? Nothing but stupidity stands in our way to create heaven on this planet. If we would only want to see a big picture, planet earth is our only home. There is no room for wars, hate or any other destructive form of behaviour for those are all enemies of our existence. But the greatest of all enemies is ignorance. If one consider himself smart, he is acctually stupid for knowledge has no limits, it is a process of learning, it never ends. If we can create such a wonderful things on this level, what could we do on higher levels of understanding? Just ask yourself, where does your fears come from if not from ignorance? Animals are afraid if danger is their direct experience, but we project our fears on others before real threat appears. Is that the best a modern man can do? But look at other options. There is nothing we can’t achieve if we only give up on selfish attitude. I vote for The Venus Project, we must admit, it offers a great solutions which can only evolve thru time. May Love and Light be with all of you people.
It is technically possible, but the change in our culture it requires is so big that I’m starting to deem it impossible. How do you teach millons of people educated in the capitalism logic to live in a world without money? The main focus should be the social challenge it poses, rather than the technical one.
On the bright side, recent experiments on graphene are proving it could be the material of the future, and help on the construction of these self-sufficient cities.
It’s really very nice documentary
